The Bluewater International Gran Fondo has gone virtual this year and riders across the world are stepping up to the challenge. Over 600 cyclists from all over the globe have signed up for this popular and incredibly well run gran fondo. Riders are participating throughout Southwestern Ontario, Canada, Michigan, Ohio and as far away as California, the UK, Australia and the Cayman Islands.

The B.I.G. is ranked #1 in Ontario and #2 in Canada, with well over 1000 riders in 2019. “We have actively pivoted to meet the regulations of the province, ensuring the BIG cyclists are safe and healthy in this, the 2021 virtual edition”, comments Ken MacAlpine, co-founder of the B.I.G.”We are really delighted with the turnout again this year. So much ongoing support for the Palliative Care continuing education in Sarnia/Lambton through Bluewater Health and the St Joseph’s Hospice of Sarnia. $200,000 has been raised thus far through the B.I.G.- we aren’t stopping now”.

“We are proud to be the major sponsor/partner of the Bluewater Palliative Care Retreat that takes place on September 10th. This too is a virtual event, which means that physicians, nurses, social workers, PSW’s & other medical professionals along with volunteers from across the province/country/world are able to experience “A Day with Legends and Pioneers in Palliative Care” from right where they are. These world class speakers will enrich the professional wisdom of our nursing teams, and in turn, will ensure the Sarnia/Lambton area families have the best palliative care for end-of-life journeys together”.
Ken MacAlpine finishes by saying “The Bluewater Granfondo runs from July 26th to August 1st, may everyone ride safely and good luck to all”. www.bigf.ca for more information on this local and global community event.
